Congress’s Mumbai North Central candidate Priya Dutt has so far been focusing on door-to-door campaign. Now, if the reports are to be believed, then Priya’s brother actor Sanjay Dutt will join the election campaign for sister from Monday.
He will be part of six road shows across the Mumbai North Central constituency along with Priya, the Congress candidate. But Sanjay won’t address any sabha or rally. The road shows will move through each of the six assembly segments in the Lok Sabha constituency, according to reports.
Priya, who represented the Mumbai North Central constituency twice, is pitted against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Poonam Mahajan.
The first road show will be in Bandra (West) on Monday evening. In 2005, following the death of her father, Sunil Dutt, Priya contested from his Mumbai North-West seat and she defeated Shiv Sena veteran Madhukar Sarpotdar. In 2009, she emerged victorious from the Mumbai North Central seat. In 2014, she was defeated by Mahajan.
A senior Congress functionary stated, “Sanjay Dutt will be campaigning for Priya. He will be part of road shows across the constituency. He has a lot of star power and is very popular. Sanjay will be the star campaigner for Priya. Sanjay’s presence will swing the mood and boost Priya’s campaign. He will be the Munna Bhai in our campaign.”
Earlier, Sanjay had accompanied sister Priya when she filed her nomination earlier this month. So far, no film star or celeb has campaign for Priya.
