Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba and Lone under house arrest: J&K shut down

Amid all the turmoil in J&K for the last few days, the tension has built up even more as leaders like former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone have been placed under house arrest. All services in the J&K have been shut down including the internet, mobile and BSNL. There has been a bar on movement for the public and public meetings have been restricted for the time being.

In several parts of Kashmir, Section 144 has been imposed. All the educational institutes including schools and colleges have been closed. There is a lot of speculation that the Centre is planning a major initiative like scrapping of Article 35A.

Since last two days more than 7,000 passengers- tourists and Amarnath pilgrims were evacuated by Airport Authority of India and Indian Air Force, which followed the security measure on possible terror attacks in valley.

 

Before facing house arrest, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir had conducted an all party meeting at his residence over the tensed tense situation of Kashmir, which followed a sense of chaos among people of the state. In his tweet Omar said, “I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight & the process has already started for other mainstream leaders. No way of knowing if this is true but if it is then I’ll see all of you on the other side of whatever is in store. Good luck to everyone, stay safe & above all PLEASE STAY CALM.”

 

Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that in such difficult times, I’d like to assure our people that come what may, we are in this together & will fight it out. Nothing should break our resolve to strive for what’s rightfully ours.”
