At a time when the coronavirus pandemic has affected the movie-goer experience in cinema halls, India’s ticketing site BookMyShow introduced a video-on-demand (TVOD) transaction streaming platform that offers cinema goers to the option of renting a movie for a short period or purchasing it for unrestricted access. With the cinema halls totally shut for months, this comes as a breather for cinema lovers.
With over 600 movie titles and over 72,000 hours of video, BookMyShow Stream will feature movies and content from around the world along with India, the portal said. With more than 22,000 hours of content being “Exclusive” on the platform at launch, BookMyShow Stream will feature multiple.
‘BookMyShow ‘ is an extension of our cinema and honours current theatrical windows for content. It empowers consumers to pay just for the entertainment they watch, a prevalent pattern in other global cinema markets that are still untapped in India,” said Ashish Saksena, Chief Operating Officer, Cinemas, BookMyShow, in a statement.
“With flexible purchase options and a seamless user interface, this new offering furthers BookMyShow’s journey from being a gateway to an evolved curator of tent pole content experiences.”
Starting Friday, the latest service will be home to Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman 1984” “The Craft: Legacy” horror fantasy.
Besides these, films such as “Alone” “Yes God Yes” “The Peanut Butter Falcon” “The Guilty” “Les Miserables” “Unhinged” and the well-known Russian Sci-fi thriller “Coma” will premiere exclusively on the website. The app is designed to provide a customised interface focused on the interests, purchase and actions of the customer at BookMyShow.
It will be available for streaming on BookMyShow’s mobile app and website as well as Apple TV, Android TV, Firestick, Chromecast and desktop browsers, said the company.
