Indian athletes are making entry into Olympics 2021 now. It is definitely a proud moment for India. International athletes from Haryana are making it the biggest sporting event. Sandeep Kumar and Rahul Kumar won the men’s event and Uttar Pradesh’s Priyanka Goswami in the women’s division at the 2021 Olympic Games in the 20km event of the 8th National Race Walking Championship held in Ranchi on Saturday. With three individual athletes claiming the Olympic quota on Saturday, the number of qualifying entries in the Race Walking Events has risen to five. It was a double pleasure for Priyanka as she shattered the national record with her best efforts of the current season.
Thirty four-year-old Sandeep clocked an hour and 20 minutes and 16 seconds to break the 1:21-second Olympic qualifying time. Rahul, 34, also improved the Olympic qualifying time, crossed the finish line at 1:20.26 seconds to clinch silver and become the second male competitor to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
Twenty four-year-old Priyanka who is an International athletes crossed the line with a time of one hour 28 minutes 45 seconds, which was higher than the women’s Olympic qualifying time of 1:31 seconds. It was her best effort of the season and a national record of 1:29.54 sec, set last year by Bhawana Jat of Rajasthan.
Bhawana, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics last year, finished second in the race on Saturday with a time of 1:32.59 seconds. Rajasthan’s Sonal Sukhwal ended third in 1:36.05 seconds.
