9 more killed in protests over hijab in Iran

Nine people have been killed and several injured in widespread protests over the hijab following the death of a 22-year-old woman in police custody in Iran. Demonstrations have erupted in the capital Tehran and western Iran over Amini’s death.

The demonstration has spread to 20 major cities in Iran. Video footage of the protests showed enraged women cutting their hair and burning hijabs while fighting against the compulsory head covering.

Women have come together on this issue, alleging discrimination against them and demanding their fundamental rights. Tehran’s police chief said Amini’s death in custody was an unfortunate incident and that such an incident should not happen again.
