Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with his daughter Maryam Sharif spent one night in Adiala Jail after their touch-down in Pakistan, yesterday. The duo is facing jail term with charges of corruption.

After their arrest from Lahore Airport, both were airlifted to the Rawalpindi jail. The father-daughter duo got ‘B’ class facilities with Air-Conditioner and Television sets at their own expenses.

According to sources ‘B’ class means special ‘Quadi’ when compared to other inmates, which translates into –inmates who will get extraordinary treatment with special privileges.

Report also said that after spending one night in the jail, the duo will be produced before a court that will be constituted inside the high-security Adiala Jail.

On the other side the Sharif’s counsels, Khawaja Haris will file an appeal before the Islamabad High Court against the verdict in the Avenfield case.

After the arrest of the former prime minister of Pakistan along with his daughter, political unrest unfolded in Lahore, and fears of violence also surged with 132 people being killed by a suicide bomber at a political rally in south-west Baluchistan province.

Nawaz Sharif’s brother, Shahbaz Sharif, former Chief Minister of Punjab province also led a rally to welcome his brother and niece. Thousands of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) supporters gathered at the rally.

But the welcome rally soon turned violent, police and other law enforcement personnel arrested nearly 500 PML-N supporters’ and banned public gathering of more than five people and also cut mobile signal connection across Lahore.

Before arrest in an interview to Guardian from Ethad Airlines, Sharif told, “Who wants to go to jail. It is very small price to pay for my mission, which is to establish the sanctity of elections in Pakistan.”

Nawaz also alleged that powerful military establishment was engineering the vote to promote the main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), led by the former cricketer Imran Khan. However the military had denied the allegation.

It was also reported that the Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a new notification, saying that the accountability court would conduct trial of remaining two corruption cases, which include Flagship Investments and Al Azizia Steel mills case, against Sharif and others at the Adiala jail.

Also the court judge Muhammed Bashir, who last night issued warrants for the imprisonment of the three time Pakistan‘s premiere and his political heir, will conduct the trial against the Sharifs in the jail.

According to the notification issued by the Islamabad administration, they have declared a rest house at the Sihala Police Training College in the capital as a sub-jail to keep the duo, with immediate effect and until further orders. However, a news channel reported that now the duo will be kept at the Adiala Jail.

Looking into the Jail gradation, we will see, usually grade A or B class prisoners are educated and give lessons to the uneducated prisoners in grade C. They do hard labour and can be engaged in useful work which is defined as rigorous punishment in their case, a report said.

The room of Class A and B prisoners are usually equipped with a cot, one chair, one teapot, one lantern, a shelf, and washing and sanitary appliances. The expenses of facilities to prisoners under A or B class such as TV, air-conditioner, fridge, and newspaper are usually paid by prisoners with the permission of Jail department, the report further added.

India has over the ages, withstood, multiple attacks on its very idea of plurality and continues to fight foreign ideologies. The new online information tsunami also brings in disinformation, and it’s here that India Aware steps in and promises to seek out balanced and unbiased facts, and bring to you information without blindingly trying to discredit anything that stems from our glorious past.
