Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Biden met in San Francisco with the aim of reducing tensions between the US and China. This is the first meeting of the two leaders this year. Biden welcomed the Chinese President with a smiling handshake and said welcome.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed issues of enhancing mutual harmony, Israel-Hamas war, Russia-Ukraine war and Taiwan. Biden told Xi that we have known each other for a long time. I value our conversation because I think it is paramount that you and I understand each other clearly without any misunderstandings. Biden asked his Chinese counterpart to follow Taiwan’s democratic values.
China-US relations, the most important bilateral relationship in the world, can and should be seen in the broader context of rapidly increasing global changes. It should be developed in a way that benefits the people of both our countries and fulfills our responsibility for human progress. Biden said that China-US relations have never been smooth in the last 50 years or more and it has always faced some kind of problems.
