The Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared unconstitutional the rejection of a no-confidence motion by the Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly. This is a big blow to Prime Minister Imran Khan. A five-member bench of the Pakistan Supreme Court gave this decision unanimously yesterday. The court ordered the restoration of the National Assembly and declared the announcement of fresh elections to be nullified.
The court said that if Imran Khan is removed after voting on the no-confidence motion, then the new leader of the house should be elected in the same session.
After the decision of the court, Prime Minister Imran Khan has called a cabinet meeting today and has also announced to address the nation. If Imran Khan has to step down, he will be the first prime minister of Pakistan to be removed through a no-confidence motion.
