Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has announced that the former prime minister will hold nationwide protests after Friday prayers to put pressure on the government to demand a mid-term election despite the deadly attack on him.
During a protest march in Wazirabad area of Pakistan’s Punjab province, a gunman opened fire on a truck carrying Khan (70), injuring Khan in the leg. One person has died in this attack.
Khan’s party claims it was an “attempt to assassinate” Imran Khan. During the rally in Wazirabad district, unidentified assailants opened fire on Imran’s vehicle. The attacker has been arrested. One person died and eight others were injured in this incident.
In April this year, Imran Khan had to relinquish power after a no-confidence motion in Parliament.
