The number of migrants who lost their lives inside a tractor-trailer in San Antonio, US southwest Texas, has risen to 51. The tractor-trailer had passed through Laredo on Interstate-35, Texas. They were not aware of the presence of migrants in it then.
Hearing the cries for help, a city worker present at the spot had an idea of the situation. About an hour later, there were piles of dead bodies on the road. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolfe said 46 people died on the spot. Five others died in the hospital. Most of the dead are men.
Biden said in a statement, “It is shameful to exploit vulnerable people for their own benefit, there are also many political aspects to this incident.” My administration will continue to do everything possible to prevent human traffickers from taking advantage of people who want to enter the United States.
