India stands with the people of Sri Lanka: Government of India

India has given an unprecedented assistance of more than 3 billion 800 million US dollars this year to Sri Lanka to get out of the serious economic crisis. He said that India stands with the people of Sri Lanka, India being Sri Lanka’s immediate neighbor and both the countries share deep bonds at the level of civilization. He said that India is aware of the challenges facing Sri Lanka and its citizens.

The main opposition party in Sri Lanka has agreed to form an all-party interim government following the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The President has announced his resignation on Wednesday. Prime Minister Ranil Vikram Singhe has also offered to resign.

In the meeting yesterday, the opposition parties deliberated extensively on the measures to take the country out of the current economic crisis and take it forward. Meanwhile, the protesters who have seized the country’s major administrative establishment have said that they will not move away until the President resigns. Protesters barged into the President’s official residence on Saturday. After this, he set the private residence of Prime Minister Vikram Singhe on fire.
