India will overtake China in terms of population by 2023: UN

The United Nations has said that India will overtake China to become the most populous country in the world in 2023. In a report, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division said that the world population is projected to reach eight billion on 15 November 2022.

India is projected to overtake China as the world’s most populous country next year. This information has been given in a report of the United Nations. The global population is growing at the slowest pace since 1950, and has fallen to less than 1 percent in 2020.

The latest UN projections suggest that the world’s population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030 and to 9.7 billion in 2050. More than half of the world’s population growth in the coming decades will occur in eight countries—the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania.
