The much talked about celebrity couple finally plan to end their six years of marriage. Though rumours have been in air for last few months, it was not declared until now. Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from rapper Kanye West after almost seven years of marriage, her publicist told AFP Friday.
The mega-celebrity couple’s divorce proceedings come just weeks after US media reported the pair were living separately and going through counselling dealing with “regular relationship issues.”
Kardashian, 40, is calling for the couple’s four children to be put in joint custody, she said, with her lawyer Laura Wasser allegedly sending her divorce papers Friday.
Kardashian’s publicist acknowledged the divorce file, but did not provide additional information.
The pair, who started dating back to 2012 and married in Italy two years later, soon became one of the most easily identifiable couples in the world.
Yet their relationship has been haunted for months by tabloid press stories that their marriage was on the brink as West suffered with mental health problems and made an unexpected and divisive foray into US politics.
West, 43 years old, spoke up his experiences with bipolar disorder.
In July last year, the Mercurial Entertainment Mogul made a bid for the presidency of the United States with a tumultuous speech in which he revealed that he wanted to abort his daughter and broke down in tears.
He also shared a series of tweets, later deleted, that accused his wife and mother-in-law of attempting to shut him up, and indicated that he was getting a divorce. Chicago-raised rapper and record producer West received 21 Grammys. He exploded into the rap scene with his production chops before releasing a series of highly acclaimed studio albums, shipping more than 20 million copies.
In recent years, he has made a very public turn to Christian evangelism, eventually launching his long-awaited gospel album.
The couple started dating back to 2012 when Kardashian was going through divorce proceedings with second husband Kris Humphries.
