US will intervene if China attacks Taiwan: Biden

US President Joe. Biden has said that the US will intervene if China attacks Taiwan. He said the responsibility of ensuring Taiwan’s security has become more important after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. This is the most powerful statement from a US president in decades.

The US has traditionally avoided providing security guarantees directly to Taiwan. The US has no defense agreement with Taiwan.

According to the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, the United States is not required to make military intervention to defend Taiwan in the event of an attack by China. However, the treaty mandates the United States to help secure resources for Taiwan’s security and to prevent China from making any unilateral changes to Taiwan’s status.
