Days after Indian cricket team left millions of sports lovers and its ardent fans crestfallen with exit from cricket world cup in England, India’s sprinter Hima Das is beoming the talk of the town all around. In last few days she has emerged as the new golden girl for the country since Sprinter P.T.Usha of the 1980s.
Participating in atheletics meet being held in in the Czech Republic, on Sunday the star Indian sprinter Hima Das won a gold medal in the 400-meter race recgistering a season-best time of 52.09 seconds at Nove Mesto. It was Hima’s fifth gold medal since July 2 when she ran to glory in her first competitive race in Europe.
The sprinter has collected in her kitty, gold in 200 meters race at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix and Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland that happened earlier this month.
Also, Das recently won the third 200 meters gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet and fourth gold at the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic.
Only recently, a good news came for the Indian sports lovers when it was decided that India’s Asian Games silver in mixed relay event would be upgraded to gold. The news came when India are in line to get the Asian Games gold in 4×400 mixed relay as Kemi Adekoya of Bahrain, who was part of the gold winning team, has been handed a four-year ban for failing a dope test.
The silver won by India’s mixed relay team of Mohammad Anas, Hima Das, Arokia Rajiv and M R Poovamma at the Asian Games in Jakarta last year was set to be upgraded.
Just a week ago, Hima Das had turned the first Indian woman to win gold at IAAF World U- 20 Athletics Championships.

Das had created history by being the first Indian woman to win a gold at the IAAF World Under- 20 Athletics Championships in Tempere, Finland. The Indian sprinter clinched the top spot in the women’s 400 meters final race.
She is just 18-year-old and clocked 51.46 seconds to win the gold.
Her feat was greeted by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, showering praises on her historic win.
