School children from three Delhi schools and a centre in Rajasthan’s Udaipur will take part in the cultural programme during the Republic Day parade in the capital on January 26, the Defence Ministry said on Friday.

The Defence Ministry and the Delhi government have selected 636 children (474 girls and 162 boys) from various schools across the capital for the occasion, the statement said.

The Delhi students are from the DAV Centenary Public School, Model Town; Bengali Senior Secondary School, Sarojini Nagar, and the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Janakpuri, besides the West Zone Cultural Center in Udaipur, the statement said.

While “Yog – Vishwa Shakti ki Ore” is the theme of the DAV Centenary Public School, the Bengali Senior Secondary School has made the Bauls, a group of mystic minstrels from the historical Bengal region, their theme.

The children from the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Janak Puri have adopted the theme of “Mharo Rang Rangilo Rajasthan”.

The West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur will present Garba – the folk dance of Gujarat – during the parade.

According to the statement, the young participants expressed happiness at being part of Republic Day parade. They said they feel a sense of pride with this chance to showcase their talent and ability to high national and international dignitaries.
