India reports 78,512 new coronavirus cases

India’s coronavirus case tally crossed the 36-lakh mark on Monday with a spike of 78,512 new cases in the past 24 hours. As many as 971 deaths due to the infection were also reported in the last 24 hours, pushing the toll to 64,469. Coronavirus case tally in India now stands at 36,21,245, according to the health ministry.

At the same time, the number of recoveries surged to 27,74,801, pushing the recovery rate to 76.63 per cent, according to the data.

The Ministry of Family and Health Welfare on Monday said that India’s recovery rate is improving. In a tweet, it said, “Last 5 lakh recoveries have been recorded in only 8 days in comparison to preceding 5 lakh recoveries which were recorded in 10 and 9 days, respectively.”

The total coronavirus cases in India include 78,1975 active cases.

Meanwhile, India has so far tested 4,23,07,914 samples for coronavirus. On Sunday, over 8 lakh samples were tested, according to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
