In the wake of worsening law and order situation leading to dastardly killing of Manish Shukla, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has summoned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and top officials to the Raj Bhavan at 10 am on Monday.

The Governor has also summoned West Bengal additional chief secretary (home) Hari Krishna Dwivedi and the state Director General of Police (DGP) Shri Virendra.

A member of the BJP’s North 24 Parganas district committee, Manish Shukla was shot dead by unidentified men in Bengal’s Titagarh on Sunday evening.

Sources within the BJP told India Today that a few bike-borne men opened indiscriminate fire at Shukla on AP Devi road when he was going to the party office. Bullets hit his head and chest resulting in Manish Shukla’s death

BJP’s Bengal unit chief Dilip Ghosh and senior party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya took to Twitter to condemn Shukla’s murder. “The horrific murder of BJP’s youth leader, lawyer and former councillor Manish Shukla is reprehensible. This is an example of the bloody politics of Paschim Banga under TMC,” Ghosh said.

“BJP worker Manish Shukla has been shot dead in front of Titagarh Police Station (in North 24 Parganas district). This matter should be investigated by CBI,” said BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Joint police commissioner in Barrackpore police commissionerate, Ajay Thakur visited the scene of the crime on Sunday itself. When questioned, he said it is not clear exactly what happened.

Following the attack, BJP activists staged protests and blocked the BT Road in Titagarh. They also raised slogans demanding justice for Manish Shukla. Titagarh police too rushed to the spot. The BJP has called a 12-hour bandh in the Barrackpore area on Monday.

In September of this year, the body of a BJP supporter was found at Goghat in West Bengal’s Googhly district. Family members had claimed at the time that Ganesh Roy went missing from home without any warning. Senior BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh and Kailash Vijayvargiya had termed Roy’s death “murder” while accusing the Trinamool of it.
