Actor Mithun Chakraborty who joined the Bhartiya Janata Party just a few days ago before West Bengal assembly polls, led three back-to-back roadshows in the state’s Jungle Mahal area on Thursday in support of the saffron party candidates.

Campaigning on hoodless cars decked out in marigold, actor Mithun Chakraborty was welcoming the enthused fans who assembled in big numbers everywhere he went. People climbed their houses and mobbed Chakraborty’s car to get a glimpse of the superstar of yesteryears, even as shouts of “guru guru” rang out in the air.

“The overwhelming response, the emotion of the people prove that change in Bengal is unavoidable and irreversible,” he told reporters in Keshiary.

When asked whether he could become chief minister if the BJP won power, Chakraborty responded, “You are obsessed with the same issue.”
“I am not a hero; I am their Mithun-da, and they are my friends; I have a bond with the people of Bengal,” Chakraborty said, expressing trust in the BJP’s victory in the state elections.

Chakraborty landed in Saltora about 9.30 a.m., but his helicopter was unable to land at the temporary helipad on the Saltora College grounds, circling for at least 15-20 minutes while a huge crowd gathered to see the celebrity.

The actor’s helicopter landed at the temporary helipad at Raj College Grounds in Jhargram, then he went to the Sabitri Cinema Hall, where the roadshow began and proceeded until the five-point crossing.

A huge amount of spectators could be seen on both sides of the road attempting to get a glimpse of the movie star.

The actor, a former TMC MP, joined the BJP at PM Modi’s rally in Kolkata last month.
