Today marks the second round of voting in Assam’s three-phased assembly elections. In the second phase, 39 of the remaining 79 constituencies will go to the polls. In the first phase, 47 seats in the 126-member assembly were up for grabs. The fate of 345 candidates will be decided in the second round of voting.

The Election Commission reports that there are 7,344,631 electors in the 39 constituencies voting in the second phase. There are 3,734,537 men, 3,609,959 women, and 135 transgender people.

The main battle is expected to be between the alliances led by the BJP and the Congress.

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People’s Party Liberal are also members of the BJP-led alliance (UPPL).

Congress has formed a broad alliance with the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, the Anchalik Gana Marcha (AGM), and the Bodoland Peoples” Front (BPF).
