BJP leader Tanmay Ghosh’s car destroyed, polling agent thrashed in Bengal

Voting for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly election began on Thursday, with some areas reporting incidents of violence.

The situation in Keshpur became tense after a BJP polling agent was allegedly beaten up by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers at booth number 173 in area 10 of the Keshpur block, according to the BJP on Thursday.

The BJP polling agent was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

In another incident, Trinamool workers allegedly vandalized BJP leader Tanmay Ghosh’s vehicle in Keshpur. Tanmay Ghosh claimed that he went to a police station to file a complaint, but it was rejected.

More than 75 lakh voters in West Bengal will decide the fate of 191 candidates across 30 constituencies. The elections for West Bengal’s 294 assembly seats are being held in eight phases. On May 2, the votes will be counted.

The TMC and the BJP are contesting all 30 seats, while the CPI(M) is contesting 15 seats and its alliance partners, the Congress and the ISF, are contesting 13 and two seats, respectively. In Bengal, voting for Phase 2 began on April 1. More than 75 lakh voters in West Bengal will decide the fate of 191 candidates across 30 constituencies. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her lieutenant-turned-rival and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari are among the candidates running from Nandigram.
