PM Modi, Army Chief Naravane discuss Army’s preparedness for COVID management

On Wednesday (29 April), Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the Army’s various initiatives to assist in Covid management.

The development comes as Covid-19 infections in India are on the rise, with the number of active cases reaching a new high of 30,84,814.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), General Naravane informed PM Modi that medical personnel from the Indian Army are being made available to various state governments.

He also informed the Prime Minister that the Indian Army is establishing temporary hospitals throughout the country. The Indian Army chief went on to say that the force is opening up its hospitals to civilians wherever possible and that citizens should go to their nearest Army hospital.

He also stated that the Army is assisting with manpower for imported oxygen tankers and vehicles that require specialized skills to manage.

Earlier on Wednesday (28 April), Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria of the Indian Air Force (IAF) met with Prime Minister Modi and briefed him on the IAF’s Covid-related operations.
