Use of steel and cement should be reduced in road construction without compromising on quality – Nitin Gadkari

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the use of steel and cement in road construction should be reduced without compromising on the quality.

Addressing a workshop on Road Development in India, Shri Gadkari said that CNG, LNG and Ethanol should be used for road equipment machinery. He emphasized on import substitution, economical, pollution free, indigenous method and provision of alternative fuel for development.

Shri Gadkari said that India has the second largest road network in the world with 63 lakh km of road connectivity. He said that the government is investing 1.4 trillion in infrastructure development through the National Infrastructure Pipeline.

He said that investment in infrastructure will increase employment opportunities during the COVID pandemic. Shri Gadkari said that the aim of the government is to build 60,000 km of roads at a speed of forty kilometers per day.
