In Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged victorious in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council. The BJP won 33 of the 36 vacant seats, including nine unopposed. Counting of votes for 27 seats took place today. Of these, BJP won 24 seats.
But, BJP had to face defeat in Varanasi seat. Independent candidate won from Varanasi. Apart from this, BJP also faced defeat in Azamgarh.
Independent and rebel BJP candidate has won from here. Pratapgarh seat went to the account of Jansatta Dal Loktantrik. A total of 95 candidates were in the fray for these seats. Voting for this was held on 9 April.
