In Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a landslide victory in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party and its ally Asom Gana Parishad have won 58 of the 60 seats in the municipal corporation.
The BJP won 52 seats while the Asom Gana Parishad won six seats. Asom Jatiya Parishad and Aam Aadmi Party have got one seat each. The opposition party Congress could not win a single seat.
The elections to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation were held after nine years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Guwahati for the mandate in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma also thanked the people for helping the party win these elections.
