Bangladesh’s National Human Rights Commission has condemned the recent attack on Hindu houses and business places in Digholia village of Narail Lohagra Upazila and ordered an inquiry. The Chairperson of the Commission said that such communal attacks are not acceptable in a non-communal country like Bangladesh. He said that no one has the right to take law into his own hands for insulting other religions, attacking houses and temples and looting in the name of freedom of expression.
Several houses, shops and temples of the Hindu community were attacked and set ablaze in Digholia village on Friday for allegedly posting derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.
According to the Daily Star report, recently on Friday, houses of Hindu minorities were torched in Sahapara area of Lohagra, Narail. After Friday prayers, the crowd created a ruckus alleging that an 18-year-old from the neighborhood had hurt their religious sentiments on Facebook. As per reports, none of the attackers have been arrested so far.
