Trinamool Congress state general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh on Thursday demanded that West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, arrested in connection with the SSC scam probe, should be immediately removed from the post and also expelled from the party.
According to the ED, around Rs 50 crore in cash and gold have been recovered from the apartment belonging to Chatterjee. Apart from this, some properties and documents related to foreign exchange were also recovered, after which they were arrested.
Party spokesperson tweeted, “Parth Chatterjee should be immediately removed from the cabinet and all party posts. If my statement is found to be false, then the party has the right to remove me from all posts. I will continue to work like a soldier of Trinamool Congress.
He later said that he has full faith in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Ghosh had said on Wednesday that he was hopeful that the Trinamool leadership would understand the sentiments of the people as the cash seizure was an “outrage” for the party and “a matter of shame for all of us”.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya has also demanded the expulsion of Chatterjee. It is worth mentioning that during the alleged teacher recruitment scam in government schools and aided schools, Partha Chatterjee was in charge of the education department. Later this department was taken over from him. The ED had arrested him on Saturday in the money laundering case.
The Enforcement Directorate is probing allegations of alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers by the School Service Commission.
