Sonali Phogat was cremated here on Friday. During this, a large number of people came to pay their respects. Phogat died under mysterious circumstances in Goa. The police have also registered a case of murder in this regard. Phogat’s daughter Yashodhara and other family members bid him a tearful farewell at the cremation ground in Rishi Nagar. It was Yashodhara who lit his pyre.
His body was brought from Goa to his farmhouse in Hisar on Thursday. Haryana Minister and BJP MLA from Hisar Kamal Gupta and party leader Kuldeep Bishnoi also reached Phogat to pay tribute.
It was initially suspected that Phogat died due to a heart attack. However, after the post-mortem of the body was conducted, Anjuna police added the charge of murder to the case of “unnatural death” and said that the report said that there were “multiple marks of deep injury” on his body.
Goa Police has detained two of Phogat’s associates Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Vasi in this connection.
