The number of people who lost their lives allegedly after consuming spurious liquor rose to 26 on Thursday in Bihar’s Saran district, which has implemented complete prohibition. Saran District Magistrate Rajesh Meena said that the death toll was 21 on Wednesday night, which increased to 26 today.
This is not the first incident of suspicious death in Saran. Earlier, three months back in August, 23 people had lost their lives due to consumption of spurious liquor here. The rapid raids around the villages where this incident took place and the arrest of some of the accused made it clear that all the deaths were due to consumption of spurious liquor.
Senior BJP leader and MP Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that more than a thousand people have lost their lives due to spurious liquor after prohibition in the state. Meanwhile, there was an uproar in the Bihar Legislative Assembly over the issue. As soon as the proceedings of the House began, the opposition BJP raised slogans against the government and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the opposition party is not cooperating in the liquor ban. He said that those who make spurious liquor will be punished severely.
