Bangladesh and India’s relations have seen growing tensions in recent times. Bangladesh’s interim government has made serious allegations, saying that India’s political leadership is using Bangladesh-related issues in a derogatory manner for domestic gains. In this context, Bangladesh’s Information Advisor Nahid Islam clarified, “If India does this, it will be detrimental to its own political position.” He further indicated that anti-Bangladesh and anti-Muslim politics could undermine India’s national interests and social unity.

Nahid Islam, one of the student leaders agitating against Sheikh Hasina, did not discuss the atrocities being committed against the Hindu minorities in Bangladesh very openly. However, he stressed that India should refrain from discussing such sensitive issues. He highlighted the importance of historical and cultural ties between India and Bangladesh and requested India to stop “false propaganda activities” against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh interim chief Muhammad Yunus stressed the need for national unity to counter misinformation being spread by big countries. Addressing political parties, he said it was time to challenge the lies being spread against Sheikh Hasina’s government.
