Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday, where he was given a grand welcome at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. PM Modi is on a two-day visit and will attend the National Day celebrations as the chief guest. Several bilateral agreements are also to be signed during this period.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Mauritius at 6 am local time, where he was warmly welcomed. Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam welcomed him by garlanding him. Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Speaker of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition, Foreign Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Chairman of Grand Port District Council and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Ahead of his visit, Prime Minister Modi said the visit will strengthen the foundation of friendship between the two countries. A contingent of Indian defence forces along with an Indian naval ship will also participate in the National Day celebrations on Wednesday.

PM Modi wrote about his visit on the social media platform ‘X’, “I am leaving on a two-day visit to Mauritius from tomorrow, where I will participate in their 57th National Day celebrations. I am looking forward to meeting my friend and Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and interacting with the Indian community.”

Prime Minister Modi said, “Mauritius is a close maritime neighbour and a key partner in the Indian Ocean. We are bound by shared values and deep cultural ties. My visit will further strengthen the foundation of our friendship and add a new chapter to India-Mauritius relations.”

This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Mauritius since 2015. This visit is expected to strengthen cooperation in various fields. Last month, the Prime Minister of Mauritius had informed the Parliament about PM Modi’s upcoming visit.
