Gujarat takes a big step towards implementing Uniform Civil Code

Gujarat will become the second state in the country after Uttarakhand to implement the Uniform Civil Code. State Law Minister Rushikesh Patel announced in the Assembly that the UCC is an important step towards ensuring equal justice for all citizens of the state and realising the concept of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.

To speed up the judicial process, the state government has set up three new arbitration tribunals in Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara district headquarters. It has been decided that cases of municipalities and panchayats will be heard in these arbitration tribunals.

In line with the vision of Prime Minister Modi, it has been decided to implement the Uniform Civil Code across the country, so that equal rights can be ensured for all citizens. In line with this, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has constituted a five-member committee to assess the need for UCC in the state. This committee has been entrusted with the task of drafting a law to ensure equal rights and privileges for all citizens of the state.

The committee has been directed to submit its report within 45 days. The state government has assured to take appropriate action based on the findings of the committee.
