Four persons were killed after a four-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Mustafabad area around 3 am on Saturday, while another 8-10 people are feared to be still trapped under the debris.
According to Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East District, 14 people have been rescued so far, out of which four have unfortunately died. A total of 20-25 people were residing in the building. Eight rescued people have been shifted to GTB Hospital for immediate medical assistance.
Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal informed that the fire department received the emergency call at 2:50 am. On reaching the spot, they found that the entire building had collapsed and many people were trapped under the debris.
Currently, teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police, Fire Department and Dog Squad are conducting rescue operations at the site. Immediate relief work is being carried out by the authorities.
Experts are focusing on the fact that the accident happened just hours after the sudden change in Delhi’s weather on Friday night. However, the actual cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined and investigations are underway.
The administration is making all necessary efforts to rescue the stranded people and the situation is being continuously monitored.
