IND vs NZ 2nd ODI: New Zealand win by 7 wickets at Niranjan Shah Stadium, level series 1-1; Rahul’s century goes in vain

New Zealand put up a commanding performance in the second ODI against India at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, winning the match by 7 wickets. With this victory, the visiting team has leveled the three-match series 1-1. The series decider will now be played in Indore on January 18th.

India, batting first after losing the toss, made 284 for 7 in 50 overs. India got off to a good start, with Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill adding 70 runs for the first wicket in 12.2 overs. Rohit was dismissed for 24 off 38 balls, including four fours.

Shubman Gill then added 29 runs with Virat Kohli to take the team to 99. Gill scored 56 off 53 balls, hitting one six and nine fours. However, hopes of a big innings were dashed after that, and he returned to the pavilion after scoring 23. India were reeling at 118/4 in 23.3 overs.

From here, KL Rahul took charge. He shared a crucial 73-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja was dismissed after scoring 27 runs off 44 balls. Rahul then added 57 runs with Nitish Reddy to take the team to a respectable score. KL Rahul played a brilliant unbeaten century of 112 runs in 92 balls with 1 six and 11 fours. Nitish Reddy scored 20 runs.

Christian Clarke was the most successful bowler for New Zealand, taking 3/56 in 8 overs. Kyle Jamieson, Jack Foulkes, Jayden Lennox, and captain Michael Bracewell took 1 wicket each.

Chasing the target, New Zealand got off to a shaky start, losing Devon Conway (16) and Will Young (10) for 46. However, Will Young and Daryl Mitchell then turned the match around. They shared a brilliant 162-run partnership in 152 balls, taking the team to 208. Young scored 87 off 98 balls, including seven fours.

Daryl Mitchell then added 78 runs with Glenn Phillips to seal the victory. Mitchell played a powerful innings of 131 runs off 117 balls, including two sixes and 11 fours. Phillips remained unbeaten on 32. Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each for India, but the team fell short of victory.
