DK Shivakumar Takes Oath as Karnataka Chief Minister

A massive political transition has unfolded in South India as the Siddaramaiah era officially comes to a close in Karnataka. The Congress party’s premier troubleshooter and state chief, D.K. Shivakumar, is scheduled to take the oath of office as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka today, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at precisely 4:05 PM. Governor Thawarchand Gehlot will administer the oath of office and secrecy at a dignified ceremony inside the Glass House of Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan) in Bengaluru. Following the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Congress high command finalized this transition under a pre-arranged power-sharing formula. While Shivakumar’s elevation has sparked massive celebrations among his supporters and the powerful Vokkaliga community, it marks a significant tactical setback for the Siddaramaiah faction.

In the initial phase of this structural transition, 13 cabinet ministers are also taking the oath of office alongside Shivakumar, keeping regional and community equations in mind. To suppress internal friction, senior Dalit leader G. Parameshwara has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister. Furthermore, the cabinet roster contains the prominent inclusion of Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the son of the outgoing Chief Minister, who is making his cabinet debut. The ministerial list also features prominent figures including U.T. Khader (who resigned as Legislative Assembly Speaker), M.B. Patil, K.J. George, K.H. Muniyappa, Satish Jarkiholi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son, Priyank Kharge. A delegation of INDIA bloc leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, has arrived in Bengaluru to attend the event.

Nationalist thinkers and political commentators observe that D.K. Shivakumar’s elevation signals the revival of internal power struggles, institutional nepotism, and appeasement politics within the state apparatus. Entrusting the chief ministerial seat to an individual who has faced severe federal investigations and incarceration over financial discrepancies proves that the Congress apparatus prioritizes financial leverage and muscle power over administrative purity. The protracted turf war between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar over the past several months had already brought developmental projects in Karnataka to a complete standstill. Accommodating Siddaramaiah’s son in the cabinet highlights the compromises made to maintain a fragile peace within the ruling party. As keywords like ‘DK Shivakumar Karnataka CM Oath’ dominate online trends, the opposition BJP has slammed the development, calling it a “government of convenience” that will remain preoccupied with internal sharing of power rather than addressing public welfare.
