NEW DELHI: Revised guidelines governing passport issuance for minors have officially come into force. Under the updated framework, standard passports issued to children under the age of 15 will now carry a maximum validity of five years, aligning document renewal timelines with the rapid developmental changes in young applicants.

The operational adjustment aims to streamline verification and documentation processes for families and passport authorities. Once the five-year validity concludes, parents and guardians are required to apply for standard renewals in accordance with official procedures, ensuring that identification records remain updated.

With the directive now formally effective, processing centers have updated their submission systems to reflect the change. All new passport issuances within this specific age category will automatically receive the five-year validity term to maintain administrative consistency.
