CHRISTCHURCH: The Indian men’s cricket team registered a fighting four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the opening encounter of their five-match T20 international bilateral series at Hagley Oval. Confronting a formidable target of 226 runs set by the hosts, the visiting lineup produced an aggressive, calculated run chase to close out the contest in the final over.
Following early setbacks inside the initial powerplay overs, the innings was steadied and accelerated through dynamic middle-order contributions from Sanju Samson and Naman Dhir. Neutralizing spin containment tactics through clean perimeter hitting, the batting unit kept the required run rate manageable across the high-scoring clash.
Experienced seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar marked his return to the international format with crucial spells during challenging phases of play. The opening victory establishes competitive momentum for India, while team strategists focus on refining death-bowling execution and outfield positioning ahead of the subsequent fixture.
