Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test-fired the extended range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile which can hit targets at over 400 km range. The test was carried out under the PJ-10 project of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as per which the missile was launched with an indigenous booster. BrahMos is the first supersonic cruise missile known to be in service. An earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan on Wednesday, swaying buildings in Taipei, the capital. Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau said the magnitude 5.9 quake struck at a depth of 106 kilometres (66 miles). There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. A special NIA court on Tuesday sentenced two Bangladeshi nationals belonging to the Ansarullah Bangla Team terror group to seven years rigorous imprisonment for conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India. Sahadat Hussain, 26, from Bangladesh’s Jessore district, and Umar Farooque, 27, from Dhaka, were convicted under various sections of the Indian legal code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and therefore the Foreigners Act.
