India reported the highest one-day spike of 45,720 coronavirus cases and 1,129 deaths this morning, government data shows. The total number of cases has crossed 12 lakh now and stands at 12,38,635. So far 7,82,607 people have recovered, while 29,861 have died. The recovery rate is 63.18 per cent and positivity rate is 13.03 per cent. The highest number of samples were tested on Wednesday, with 3,50,823 samples collected. The total samples tested till now is over 1.5 crore, government data shows. A local court in Delhi has awarded 24 years of rigorous imprisonment to Sonu Punjaban, who has been one of Delhi’s biggest sex racket operators with a deep nexus with gangsters in north India. The Enforcement Directorate is understood to have initiated a process to freeze over 60 bank accounts in the country on the request of the Brazilian government in connection with a money laundering case in that country. The agency said the action was taken under the provision of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in pursuance of a mutual agreement between the two nations to combat financial crimes. India and Maldives have signed an agreement for establishment of ‘Emergency Medical Services’ in capital Male. It is one of the several small and medium projects that are being financed by India under a grant assistance of around 20 million US dollars for the neighbouring country. Maldives foreign minister Abdulla Shaheed, while thanking the Indian government, said the emergency medical service unit will enhance timely access to quality emergency care.
