The ministry has blocked eight YouTube news channels, one Facebook account and two Facebook posts. All of them were involved in spreading misinformation about the country’s national security, relations with foreign countries and public arrangements.
The blocked channels include seven Indian and one Pakistani news channel. Democracy TV, U-and-V TV, AM Channels named Razvi, Government Updates and Pakistan’s News Ki Duniya have been shut down. These channels are blocked under information technology rules.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has said in a statement that the viewership of these YouTube channels was more than 114 million and more than 85 lakh users were subscribed to them. The ministry has said that all these channels used to run fake news about various issues like Indian Armed Forces and Jammu and Kashmir.
