Renowned Malayalam film industry actor Mohanlal resigned yesterday from the position of President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). This decision comes in the wake of the report by the Justice K. Hema Committee, which detailed the harassment and mistreatment of women professionals in the film industry. Before Mohanlal, director Ranjith and actor Siddique had also resigned from their leadership roles in the state-run Film Academy and AMMA, respectively. Several female artists have alleged that they were forced to compromise even before beginning their work.
