Assam experienced an militant attack by its rebel group ULFA. On early Wednesday morning, notorious rebels from the militarized separatist group United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA-I) abducted three employees of the state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) from a rig location at the Lakwa field in Assam’s Charaideo district.

At around 1:30 a.m., five armed individuals escorted the concerned employees in the company’s ambulance towards the Assam-Nagaland border.

ULFA have not yet claimed responsibility for the incident, but Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the state’s chief secretary and director-general of police (DGP) to take the necessary steps to rescue the victims.

“Three ONGC employees, two junior engineer assistants (production) and one junior technician (production), have been abducted by unknown armed miscreants,” the company announced on Twitter.

Last December, ULFA (I) also kidnapped two employees from Quippo Oil in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district. They were, however, released earlier this month by the insurgents.
