Ayushman Bharat scheme expanded in Delhi, now treatment up to ₹ 10 lakh will be free

Ayushman Bharat Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is going to be implemented soon in the Indian capital Delhi. It is a major health insurance initiative of the central government which aims to provide free medical facilities to millions of citizens. For the launch of this scheme, the National Health Authority (NHA) has made adequate advance preparations and officers, employees and Asha workers of the Health Department of Delhi are receiving special training for this. The main objective of this training is to create Ayushman Bharat cards, settle claims and register hospitals. Kiran Gopal Vaska, Joint Secretary and Mission Director of NHA, informed that signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delhi government will be the first step towards the speedy implementation of this scheme.

6.54 lakh families will get health insurance under the scheme, with free medical benefits up to Rs 10 lakh for each family, with the Delhi government and the central government contributing Rs 5 lakh each equally. Special groups, including senior citizens, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, will also be benefited under the scheme.

So far 66 hospitals have been included in this scheme and more hospitals will be added in the future. Thus, through the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the residents of Delhi will be able to get proper medical treatment without financial barriers, which will provide significant relief to poor and needy families.
