The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) agreed on Thursday, at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the party headquarters, to actively defend the three farm laws through an awareness drive and to mobilise support from farmers.

It was determined that a programme should be initiated to address the misinformation circulated by opposition parties and some groups in the agricultural legislation.

In the campaign, party workers and leaders will explain the benefits of the farm laws to the farmers. When farmers are told the reality about the farm laws, their misconceptions will be addressed.

The conference began at 3:30 p.m. In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, other top leaders and party officials.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar shared the issues faced by farmers’ organisations during the five rounds of talks held with the government, the different facets of the farmers’ agitation and the problems presented by certain farmers’ organisations.

“The party will consider the amendments suggested by the farmers’ organisations but the laws will not be repealed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants that an information campaign be initiated to give detailed information about the farm laws to the farmers as well as general public.”

It was also addressed at the meeting that some farmers’ associations welcomed the legislation and once they are given the correct details about the legislation, more organisations would accept it.

A senior BJP leader said Many farmers’ organisations supported the latest agricultural reforms. The party argues that misinformation about the rules should be firmly countered. We will reach out to the farmers and tell them that the purchasing of the MSP has risen. The sourcing centres have been expanded.

For the last six years, we have sent double the amount in the accounts of farmers through MSP. Rs 6,000 per year is also been given under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. An agricultural infrastructure fund of Rs 1 lakh crore has also been created.
