Uttar Pradesh saw another case where two brothers, including the groom, were apprehended in Moradabad under the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance 2020.
Vidya Charan Shukla, Superintendent of Police, Moradabad Rural, said that the case had been reported on the basis of a complaint by the mother of the daughter.
According to the police, a Bijnor woman lodged a report that her daughter had been married after she had changed her faith. A case against two brothers was reported on this allegation.
Both persons were arrested and the investigation was underway.
In the meantime the woman said, “I am 22 years old and I married Rashid five months ago, according to my wishes. He didn’t push me to marry and convert.”
t may be recalled that last month, Governor Anandiben Patel of Uttar Pradesh promulgated the UP Prohibition of the Unconstitutional Conversion of the Faith Ordinance 2020.
The new legislation allows for a prison sentence of one to five years for the accused and a punishment of Rs 15,000 if convicted for carrying out forceful conversions for marriage.
It may be recalled that last month Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel had promulgated the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance 2020.
The new law mandates a jail term of one to five years for the accused with Rs 15,000 penalty, if convicted for carrying out forceful conversions for marriage.
