The Calcutta High Court has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the gang rape and murder of a teenager at Hanskhali in Nadia district of West Bengal. The court said that it is necessary to get the investigation done by the CBI instead of the local police in order to give confidence to the victim’s family and the local residents and the state.
The authorities concerned have also been directed to provide full protection to the family of the victim and the witnesses in the case.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed doubts over the details of the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Opposition parties had strongly criticized him on the issue, calling him insensitive and unfortunate.
