Terming coronavirus a disaster, the Odisha government asked people on Sunday to remain alert for at least six months. The state government also asked the people to practise social distancing and refrain from spreading rumours and misinformation about the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In a media briefing, Odisha government spokesperson Subroto Bagchi listed the ‘dos and don’ts’ to create awareness among citizens. He also asked people to remain calm, and not panic.

Subroto Bagchi advised people of the state to stay prepared for at least six months to combat the virus. He also stated that “personal hygiene and social distancing are crucial to keep ourselves protected from the coronavirus”.

The government spokesperson said that combating coronavirus was not the sole responsibility of the government, but requires the collective effort of all.

“We have begun preparations on war footing and I urge all to remain alert for at least six months to fight back the virus,” Bagchi advised people, adding that they should not believe in fake news or indulge in spreading rumours and misinformation regarding Covid-19.

“As there is no specific treatment available till date, it is better to practice prevention than seek cure when there is no specific cure available to Covid-19,” CBK Mohanty, Director of Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) said.

In the presser, Subroto Bagchi also listed the preparedness by the Odisha government to combat the coronavirus which has killed over 6,000 and infected over 159,800 people across the world.

The Ganjam administration on Sunday night clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CRPC in the entire district to restrict public gathering. The prohibitory order would be in force till further order, said District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
