The Delhi High Court has refused to stay the Agneepath scheme to recruit youth into the armed forces. Hearing the petitions challenging this scheme, the court has asked the Center to submit its reply in this regard within four weeks.
The Union Cabinet had approved the Agneepath scheme on June 14 this year. This is a very attractive scheme for the youth to serve in the armed forces. The jawans recruited under this scheme are known as Agniveers.
In fact, on July 19, the Supreme Court transferred several petitions related to the Agneepath scheme to the Delhi High Court. When many petitions came, the High Court compiled them. The hearing took place on Thursday. A division bench of Justices Satish Chander Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad on Thursday refused to stay the Agneepath scheme, seeking the Centre’s reply.
