Despite an increase in cases, Delhi CM not to reimpose lockdown

Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal on Monday (15 June) put an end to speculations regarding the reimposition of lockdown in the national capital and said his government had no such plans, Hindustan Times reported.

As the number of coronavirus cases has spiked in Delhi for last few weeks, it was being rumoured that a complete shutdown was in offing.

However, the Delhi CM took to Twitter and wrote, “Many people are speculating whether another lockdown in Delhi in being planned. There are no such plans.”

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an all-party meeting to discuss the pandemic situation in Delhi.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, newly appointed Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Adesh Gupta, and Delhi Congress chief Chaudhary Anil Kumar were present at the meeting held at Shah’s North Block office here.

Shah had also held two separate meetings on Sunday — one in which Kejriwal his deputy Manish Sisodia, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain and Baijal were present, and the second which was also attended by all Delhi MC Mayors. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and members of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) were also present.

Delhi has reported 2,224 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours and 56 more deaths, taking the total fatalities in the national capital due to the virus to 1,327. The tally of total confirmed cases, whereas, has reached 41,182, with 24,032 active cases.
