DRDO successfully test fires Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet at Chandipur

The DRDO on Friday successfully conducted the flight test of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) Technology from Interim Teat Range at Chandipur, a beach in Baleswar district of Odisha.

During the test fire, all subsystems including the ground booster engine were conducted as anticipated.

“Many new techniques, including Ducted Ramjet technology based on Solid Fuel, have been proved during the simulation.”

During the test, a booster engine simulated the air-launch scenario. The nozzle-less booster then speededed it to the necessary Ramjet Mach number.

The missile’s performance has been controlled with data captured by ITR’s Electro-optical, Radar and Telemetry Instruments, and confirmed that the mission targets have been successfully demonstrated.

The DRDO has achieved a technical benefit through successful demonstration of Solid Fuel based Ducted Ramje technology that will enable the DRDO to develop air-to-air long distance missiles. Such equipment is currently available in a number of countries worldwide.

Senior scientists from several DRDO laboratories, including the DRDL, the Imarat Research Centre, and the Higher Energy Materials Rechercherche Laboratory, supervised this launch (HEMRL)
